One of the key features is the moisture control water retention channel, which runs around the outside of each tray. Instead of allowing the liquids to fall directly through the tray, this channel gathers the moisture, preventing the bedding from drying out along the edges. This ensures optimal conditions for the worms to thrive.
When it's time to expand your living composter, a collection of 52 angled tunnels extend down from the base of each tray, directly into the bedding of the tray below. This design facilitates seamless migration of the worms between the trays, allowing them to efficiently decompose the organic matter.
Aeration is crucial for the well-being of the worms and the quality of the compost. The Essential Living Composter features a series of support points molded into the lower edge of the trays, which raise them slightly and allow for 360-degree airflow across the bedding.
In addition to these proprietary features, the Essential Living Composter shares the same top-end vermicomposting capabilities as its predecessor. The liquid collected in the reservoir base, known as "worm tea," can be diluted with water and used as a potent fertilizer for plants. The speed and efficiency of the vermicomposting process also help to minimize any unpleasant odors, allowing the unit to be used indoors year-round.
Constructed from BPA-free, UV-inhibited, recycled polypropylene, the Essential Living Composter is a durable and environmentally conscious solution for home composting. However, it's important to note that the worms are not included with the unit and must be purchased separately.
